Finley’s Point of view: Fun, Romantic Getaways with your Valentine AND ME

Hi Finley here,

You know, Valentine’s Day is coming up and of course what kind of canine companion would I be if I didn’t give you some hints on how to make the day special for you and your Valentine (you can thank me later….. I like treats). So instead of the usual Valentine Day gift ideas, I’m going to share with you some great local get-aways that you can enjoy with your Valentine along with your four-legged friends. Because really, the best getaways are the ones when we can tag along….heehee!

There’s so many great places to go around here, but for starters, let’s take a look at the San Juan Islands. I LOVE the San Juans because I can run and play and they’ve got some great pet-friendly places to stay:

Blue Heron Bed & Breakfast

This is a very cozy and romantic place that will pamper your pet (well….and you too). Did you know they were voted “pick of the litter” in the Pet Lover’s Companion to the Pacific Northwest?

Friday Harbor Suites

In Friday Harbor of course. Now when you call to make your reservation here, make sure they have a pet-friendly room available, otherwise, we’d have to stay home and that’s no fun.

Glamping Hub

Have you ever heard of “Glamping”? Well, Glamping is kinda like camping only, according to my mom, a little more “glamorous.” It’s camping without really roughing it too much because instead of sleeping in a tent, you get to sleep in a cabin but you still get to be in the great outdoors. If you’d like to learn more, go to Glamping Hub and check out all the great spots you can go glamping with your pet (oh yeah, and your special someone).

Vacations by the Sea

What canine companion doesn’t love a trip to the beach? Vacations by the Sea offers a large number of pet friendly condos you can rent and enjoy a great get-away, but call early; they fill up fast.

Close to home

If you’d like to stick a little closer to home, find some great local area hotels that will welcome your canine friend. My favorite is Willows Lodge. They’re in Woodinville, pretty close to Cascade Kennels, where I work, so a get-away to Willows is super easy, plus with the Burke-Gilman trail so close by, my humans and I can get lots of exercise.

As I mentioned above, I like treats so as a thank-you for all of these great ideas I just gave you, here’s a recipe that I LOVE and I know your favorite canine will too.

Homemade Sweetheart PB Carob Treats

Ingredients:                                                                                      Homemade Sweetheart PB Carob Treats

1 cup peanut butter

2 eggs, slightly beaten

1 cup milk

2 cups whole wheat flour

2 tbsp. sugar

1 tbsp. baking powder

1 cup carob chips

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

Beat eggs with peanut butter, then add milk and combine well.

In separate bowl, combine flour, sugar, and baking powder. Combine the dry mixture with the peanut butter mixture. Mix well.

Stir in carob chips ( safe, non-toxic alternative to chocolate). Drop by rounded teaspoons onto lightly greased cookie sheet, leaving about 1″ in between cookies. Bake with love for 20 to 25 minutes, or until biscuits look just barely “dry” in the middle and are baked through. Do not over-bake! The biscuits will naturally harden as they cool.

Before you & your dog take a nibble let treats cool down before removing from cookie sheet. Once cooled. Ready, Set, devour!

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Until Next Time,

Finley
