Finley’s Tasty Halloween Treats

Update for 2019:

Unfortunately, there will not be a Haunted Puppy Town event this year. Check back next year!

Finley here!

Haunted Puppy Town is almost here! I still haven’t decided what to be… Spooky Ghost Finley? Cowboy Finley? Cat Finley? No, definitely not that last one… that’s a little too scary. I hope you’re having fun too deciding what to dress up as this year! In case you don’t know, Haunted Puppy Town is this really fun carnival we do here at the kennel, with lots of pets, humans, food and prizes. Plus, we raise lots of money for local rescues and things like that while we’re at it! It’s pretty much the only dog-friendly thing to do on Halloween, so I can’t wait to see all my friends there.

Of course, the one downside to Halloween is watching my people enjoy all their candy that I can’t have. So, this year I decided that it’s time for me to have my very own Halloween treat that’s safe for me! Here’s what my humans are going to make me:

Pumpkin Dog Treats

1/2 cup pureed pumpkin

1 egg

1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

STEP ONE: Preheat the oven to 350F degrees.  Get out a cookie sheet, lined with a non-stick cooking mat.  Set aside.

STEP TWO: Whisk the egg and pureed pumpkin together, in a medium mixing bowl.  Add the flour and mix into a dough.  Once a dough is formed, flour your work surface.  Roll out dough to a 1/4 inch thickness.  Cut out shapes and place on cookie sheet. Re-roll any leftover pieces and finish cutting out shapes.

STEP THREE: Place cookie sheet in oven and bake for 40 minutes.  Make sure they are nice and crunchy, once they have cooled.  Allow to fully cool before giving to your dog.

NOTES:  If the treats aren’t crunchy, just place bake in the oven for 5 -10 minutes and allow to cool.  Break a treat in half to check for crunchiness.

Remember, keep your pets safe on Halloween. If you take your dog trick or treating, keep him or her on a leash at all times, or just keep him home and in a place where he won’t be bothered by all the trick or treaters. Happy Halloween!

Until Next Time,

Finley,
