Summer Workshop Series

It can be tough to squeeze training in along with vacations and other commitments during the busy summer months, and often our dogs can feel left out of the fun. We’re here to help with that! The Summer Workshop Series is a wonderful way to continue your training over the summer months in a way that’s fun and low-commitment. This is also a great way to get back into training with your dog if it’s been a while since you’ve been in classes or lessons with us. Each workshop covers a single topic in depth, which allows you to pick and choose which ones would be the best fit for you and your dog. These workshops are open to dogs of all skill levels and the experience will be customized to meet your needs. We look forward to offering you a new and exciting way to keep training a part of your life this summer!

6/29/19 - Fourth of July/Summer BBQ Prep 10am-12pm in the Upper Building

This class is exactly what you need to start getting your dog prepared for all the fun summer outings with friends and family members. Polish up your Loose Leash Walking skills, Impulse Control, default Settle behavior, Polite Greetings, and ability to ignore distractions. To prepare for the Fourth of July, we’ll also be discussing and practicing some sound desensitization exercises to help prepare your dogs for fireworks and other loud noises. We will also troubleshoot many common issues with taking our dogs to new places and discuss how we can help our dogs to be successful. This class is open to any current or previous training clients who have dogs that can work successfully around other people and dogs.

6/29/19 - Tricks 1-3pm in the Lower Building

Looking for some new and fun exercises to work on with your dog? Teaching tricks is an excellent way to build your relationship with your dog, keep their brains engaged, and have some crowd pleasers for your summer parties and gatherings. We will cover a variety of fun tricks and body awareness exercises that can spice up your dog’s training. Learning tricks is wonderful for building confidence in worried dogs, building body awareness and core strength, and having cute skills for your future therapy dog or social butterfly to show off in public. This class is open to any current or previous training clients who have dogs that can work successfully around other people and dogs.

7/13/19 - Public Outing 10am-12pm at a Public Location in Woodinville

This workshop is eligible for students who have completed the Intermediate Obedience Class and above or have prior instructor approval. We will be going to an off premises location in the Woodinville area to work on Attention, Loose Leash Walking, Settling, and dealing with real world distractions. Having a structured outing is the perfect next step for students who need some help taking the skills they’ve been practicing in the classroom out into the world and receiving real time feedback to ensure success. Exact location will be emailed to participants the week of the workshop to account for weather changes.

7/13/19 - Loose Leash Walking 1-3pm in the Lower Building

Practice the ins and outs of Loose Leash Walking from the very beginning steps all the way to walking past more difficult distractions successfully. This class will provide a refresher on many of the exercises we’ve covered in classes or lessons, as well as adding in several new exercises and distraction opportunities. We will also troubleshoot many common issues with Loose Leash Walking and discuss how we can help our dogs navigate the world in a way that allows for successful walks. This class is open to any current or previous training clients who have dogs that can work successfully around other people and dogs.

7/20/19 - Distraction Proofing 10am-12pm in the Upper Building

This workshop will build off of much of what you’ve learned in your classes and the previous workshops by proofing our dog’s skills around a variety of different distractions. We will work each dog at their skill level and add appropriate distractions to Loose Leash Walking, Recalls, Stays, etc. This gives you the chance to practice these skills around a variety of controlled distractions and come up with a solid plan to help your dog overcome their biggest distractions out in the world. We will be using food, toys, people, dogs, and anything else we can find to teach our dogs that responding to us isn’t optional no matter how exciting the world might be. This class is open to any current or previous training clients who have dogs that can work successfully around other people and dogs.

7/20/19 - Recalls 1-3pm in the Lower Building

Want a dog that comes when you call the first time every time? This workshop will go over all the ins and outs of creating a reliable recall from a variety of distractions. We will begin with a refresher on many of the exercises we’ve covered in classes or lessons and then add in several new exercises and distraction opportunities.  We will troubleshoot many common recall issues and come up with a step by step plan to off leash reliability. This class is open to any current or previous training clients who have dogs that can work successfully around other people and dogs.

7/27/19 - Polite Greetings 1-3pm in the Lower Building

Is your dog a little too outgoing around new people or on the shier side? This workshop is designed to allow your dog the opportunity to learn how to greet people appropriately and when it is and is not appropriate to greet others. We will have a variety of helpers that we can practice good greetings on and work on building confidence with some of our shier friends.  We will also troubleshoot many common issues with greeting people and discuss how we can help our dogs make better decisions when it comes to greetings. This class is open to any current or previous training clients who have dogs that can work successfully around other people and dogs.

8/3/19 - Intro to Rally Obedience 10-12pm in the Upper Building

Looking for some new skills to work on with your dog or interested in giving Rally or Competition Obedience a try one day? Participating in Rally is a great way to improve obedience skills and help develop a fun working relationship with your dog. Exercises taught in Rally are also essential life skills: sit, down, stay, and heel etc. Rally is a sport anyone and any dog can do with a little practice. This workshop will give a brief overview of the sport, introduce many of the common exercises, and even give you the ability to work through a course or two! This class is open to any current or previous training clients who have dogs that can work successfully around other people and dogs.

8/3/19 - Public Manners 1-3pm in the Lower Building

Have you ever imagined having one of those dogs that you can take anywhere and do anything with? This workshop will go over the various skills needed to have a “go anywhere” dog and allow us to practice those skills around distractions. We will go over some Loose Leash Walking skills, Impulse Control, teaching a default Settle behavior, Leave It, and ignoring distractions. We will also troubleshoot many common issues with taking our dogs into public spaces and discuss how we can help our dogs to be successful. This class is open to any current or previous training clients who have dogs that can work successfully around other people and dogs.

8/24/19 - Cooperative Care 10am-12pm in the Upper Building

Wish you could do something as simple as clipping your dog’s nails or giving them a pill without it turning into WWIII? Difficulty doing basic grooming or husbandry tasks is a common problem for many dogs and their people. Whether your dog is already displaying issues or you want to be proactive about preventing handling issues, this workshop can make a big step towards a more cooperative relationship with your dog. This workshop will cover how to make vet visits more pleasant for you and your dog, get them comfortable with handling and grooming tasks, and teach them some skills that can make basic grooming and husbandry tasks easier for you and your dog. We will also troubleshoot many of these common issues and discuss how we can help our dogs feel more comfortable in these situations in the future. This class is open to any current or previous training clients who have dogs that can work successfully around other people and dogs.

8/31/19 - Trail Manners 1-3pm in the Lower Building

If having a perfect hiking companion is your dream for your dog, this workshop is exactly where you want to get started. In this workshop we’ll be covering Loose Leash Walking, Attention, Impulse Control, Recalls, and introducing an Emergency Stay behavior. The more your dog knows, the more likely you are to take them with you to explore all the beauty the PNW has to offer. We will troubleshoot many common trail issues, talk about what to bring with you to keep your dog safe and comfortable, and come up with a step by step plan to off leash reliability. This class is open to any current or previous training clients who have dogs that can work successfully around other people and dogs.
