Update for 2019:

Unfortunately, there will not be a Haunted Puppy Town event this year. Check back next year!

Haunted Puppy Town!

Cascade Kennels is proud to announce its second annual Haunted Puppy Town on October 25, 2014.  Haunted Puppy Town was such a success in raising money for many deserving animal organizations, facilitating pet adoptions, and having a ton of fun, we couldn’t imagine not doing it again.

Keep your eyes peeled for more information coming in our October newsletter.

    Welcoming Autumn

After a beautiful and warm summer here in the Seattle area, many of us are excited for fall to be here. We welcome the cooler weather, changing color of the leaves, going back to school and even football season. But how do our pets feel about these changes that accompany the new season?   Fall can bring many changes including less activity as the weather gets colder, more time alone due to busy school schedules, and increased need for grooming to keep clean during the wet season. In this article we have compiled some helpful tips to make the transition to fall easier for both you and your pet.

Exercise –

  • With fall comes shorter days which means you are more likely to walk your dog in the darker times of the day. Reflective gear, light-up collars and flashlights can help to keep you and your pet safe.
  • Cold weather, rain, and even snow may cause you to limit the time you spend outside with your pet. Some alternatives include creating an indoor agility course with whatever you have around the house or a day of play at Cascade Kennels Doggy Daycare.
  • Shop with your dog. Many people are unaware of how many local stores are actually pet friendly. Taking your dog for an outing to walk around the local pet store or even Barnes and Noble can be an exciting and enriching activity that is both warm and dry for you and your pet.

Health –

  • With fall comes holidays and with holidays comes food. Although they love our holiday foods like corn on the cob, onions, garlic, avocado, bread dough, and chocolate, take special care to keep these items out of reach of your pet.
  • Fall can also bring an onset of new allergies to pets. Clear discharge, sneezing, coughing, snoring and itching can all be signs of allergens. For further questions consult your personal veterinarian.
  • Many laugh and giggle when they see animals in crazy little outfits. The truth is that many animals do get cold during these colder months and clothing to keep them dry and warm serves function and fashion.

Along with fall comes new fall treats!

Butternut Squash Dog Treats Ingredients:

3/4 cup squash puree 2 eggs

2 Tbs. peanut butter

2 cups whole wheat flour

1/2 cup all-purpose flour for rolling

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Mix eggs, squash and peanut butter in a large bowl. Incorporate flour until you have a stiff, dry dough. Knead with you hands if necessary. (This dough is much drier then cookie dough for humans; about the consistency of pie crust.) Roll the dough out with a rolling-pin on a floured surface until 1/2 inch thick. Cut with the cookie cutter of your choice or just use a knife to cut into squares. Bake on a cookie sheet until hard, approximately 25 mins. Move treats to wire rack and allow to cool.   Enjoy !!
