Getting Your Pet Ready for Pet Boarding

Summer is right around the corner, bringing warmer days, sunshine, and plenty of fun. Sometimes that fun takes us near and far, but as pet owners, we know that even when we wish we could, we can’t always bring our pets along for the ride. While they may not be able to join us on every adventure, they can enjoy a little getaway of their own at a trusted pet boarding facility like Cascade Kennels.

We love welcoming new and returning guests, and we want every stay to go as smoothly as possible for you and your pet. A little preparation goes a long way. Here’s what you’ll want to know before your pet’s first (or next!) stay with us.

Required Vaccines

Before your pet checks in, you’ll want to confirm they’re up to date on the following vaccinations. These requirements are in place to keep every animal in our care safe and healthy:

Canine Vaccines:

  • Bordetella (kennel cough) – required annually
  • Rabies – a one-year or three-year vaccine is accepted
  • Distemper – accepted as a standalone shot or as part of a combination vaccine
  • Recommended for overnight boarding, but not required: Canine Flu (both H3N2 and H3N8 strains)

Feline Vaccines:

  • Feline Leukemia – 1-year or 3-year vaccine accepted. Waiver for indoor-only cats accepted upon submission of a letter from a veterinarian.
  • Rabies – 1-year or 3-year vaccine accepted
  • FVRCP – 1-year or 3-year vaccine accepted. Covers feline rhinotracheitis, calicivirus, and panleukopenia.

You can find more information on vaccinations on our website.

What to Bring

Packing for your pet doesn’t have to be complicated! For dogs, you’re welcome to bring their own food, any medications, and one blanket. For cats, you can bring food and medications, plus bedding, treats, and toys to help them feel right at home.

Don’t worry about the extras. Cascade Kennels provides dishes, bedding, toys, and litter for our feline guests. When it comes to food, any suitable container works, and we’ll follow the care instructions you provide to keep your pet on their regular routine.

Check-in and Check-out Procedures

Drop-off is easy. You can check in your pet at any time during our regular business hours. For pick-up, we use a hotel-style system with a standard noon check-out time. One thing to note: if your pet has a grooming appointment on the day they’re heading home, the noon check-out policy doesn’t apply.
