Finley’s New Years Resolutions

Happy New Year! Here are my resolutions for 2015. Yes, dogs can make resolutions, and they can be just as cliché as the ones you humans make! It’s a free country, you know!

Lose Weight Did you know that over half of dogs in the US are overweight or obese according to the Association for Pet Obesity & Prevention? Obesity can take years off of a dog’s lifespan, and I sure as heck plan on being around for as long as possible to take care of my humans. They wouldn’t know what to do without me!   Eat Healthier I can’t believe I’m saying this… but I’m making the resolution to eat less milk bones. I’m not saying I’m going to stop cold turkey (…mmmm, cold turkey…), but I found out that just one or two milk bones is equivalent to almost the total amount of calories I’m supposed to eat in a whole day! Me and my human agreed that we should keep better track of how many snacks I get every day, because as my waistline can tell you, it adds up!!   Make new friends A dog like me can never have too many friends! I love all my friends in daycare. The best days are when a new dog joins the pack. I love making them feel welcome and showing them the ropes. You, human readers, are actually responsible for helping me keep this resolution. All you have to do is go to Day care enrollment!   Chase More Balls Need I say more?   Volunteer Oh, I’m sorry, you thought I meant that I was going to volunteer?? HA! Nope, I’m going to make my humans do it. I’ve looked into it and there are lots of different places you can volunteer around here! Shelters  like Homeward Pet Adoption Center, PAWS in Lynnwood, and Seattle Humane Society always need extra helping hands. You could even go to Zazu’s House Parrot Sanctuary in Maltby and take care of really cool birds!   Take More Naps Yep.   Hike A Lot  I say it every year, but I really mean it! I want to start hiking as soon as spring rolls around. It makes me feel like a wild beast. In case we meet on the trail, check out my love letter to hiking etiquette and safety that I wrote a while back: hiking with your dog.     Let’s make 2015 the best year EVER!   Cheers, Finley Executive Canine Quality Control Officer Cascade Kennels, Inc.

Did you know that Homeward Pet in Woodinville offers microchipping services for just $20 every Tuesday from 10am – 2pm? Microchips are a great form of identification for your pet. They’re smaller than a grain of rice, and because they are injected under the skin between the shoulder blades, they’re permanent. Every chip has a number that’s registered with a national database, and contains the owner’s name, address and contact information. Most veterinary clinics, shelters and rescue organizations have scanners that can read the information. This tiny chip could be the key with reuniting you and your pet should they ever get lost!

Book soon for President’s Day Weekend and

 Mid-Winter Break in February

The kennel gets hoppin’ for the upcoming long weekend in February (the 14th – 16th) and then the following week, as many school districts’ mid-winter breaks are also around that time. Because it’s such a great time to travel, lots of pets come to stay with us. Be sure to reserve your pet’s spot soon!
